How do I get my own room?Get your own room will take you to my "check in" page. Once there, you'll find the profile form. Fill out the form with as much or as little information as you deem appropriate. NOTE: Areas with an asterisk are required fields. Submit the completed form. I will notify you by email when your room is ready for occupancy. You can then start creating pages using the form that will make up a part of your room.
Why do you need my email address?I detest spam. I need your email address in order to notify you that your room is ready and to give you the URL so that you can occupy it. Rest assured, I will never allow your email address to be posted, and you will never receive spam from me.
Can I "decorate" my own room?At this point in time, the programming for OpenSpace is quite basic; therefore, the template for rooms is rather simple. As new programming options become available, more decorating alternatives will be accessible.
What will my room look like?Check out my sample room at Darlene's Room.
How do I upload a photo or image for my room?Once your room is ready, go to the form in your room and follow the instructions on that form under Upload a Picture. In BOTH the Title and Text fields, either type in or copy and paste the words: "Image for my room." I will then verify your request via the email address you supplied. Once I receive verification from you, expect your image to be uploaded within 2 business days, usually less.
How long does it take for my room to go live on the Net?Depending on site traffic and room requests in queue, your room could take 2 – 4 business days to go live. Generally, expect your room to be ready for occupancy within 24 hours.
How do I create pages in my room?Once your room is ready, I will contact you with your URL. Click onto that URL and use the easy-to-use, self-explanatory form in your room to start building pages. Once you've submitted a new page for your room, you will be given the option of being notified. If you opt for that notification, you will receive an automated confirmation notice that the page is live in your room. There is no limit to the number of pages you can create in your room, as long as they are appropriate to this site.
Can visitors leave comments on the pages I create?Absolutely! If you've chosen the comments and/or ratings features, visitors can comment on and rate your pages. You can leave comments as well. Indeed, it is highly encouraged for room holders to address visitors using the comments form for individual pages. It is a way for room holders to develop a loyal following, and a community of sorts.
What if I don't want comments or ratings on my pages? When you fill out the room holder profile form on my "check-in" page, you can opt to disallow comments and/or ratings for your pages. However, these are all or nothing options; programming will not allow you to restrict comments and/or ratings on specific pages.
If at any time you change you mind about allowing or disallowing either of these features, use the form on my Safe House help page to contact me. I'll change the template of your room accordingly.
How do I edit pages already posted in my room?If you want to make corrections or edits to a page you have created, use the form on my Safe House Help page to notify me of those required corrections and the URL of the page. I'll update the page accordingly. Be very specific so that I know exactly what you want changed. If there are many changes required, I suggest you re-submit a corrected version of the page using the form in your room; just be sure to identify that it is a "replacement" for a specific page, otherwise it will appear as a duplicate page in your room.
What if someone posts a page I don't want in my room?I have no way of knowing whether a page built in your room is welcome or not. If someone posts an unwanted page in your room, use the form on my Safe House Help page to notify me of the page's URL. I'll delete the page accordingly.
How do I deal with visitors who leave abusive comments?Use the form on my help page to notify me. Identify the URL of the page the comment is on, the title of the comment, and the commenter's name (Anonymous is a name). I will delete the abusive comment.
What if my page goes over the 10,000-character limit?Find a logical spot in your post to end it, and then place the words "Continued in Part 2" on the bottom of that page. Submit the page for posting. Start another page using the same title, but with a page number after it: i.e. "My Story Page 2." This will inform the reader there is more to come, and will prompt them to look for the next part in the directory of links that appear at the bottom of your room.
How do I upload a photo or video on one of my pages?Save the photo or video to your computer. Create a page using the form in your room. Scroll down to the "Upload a Picture" feature on the form, and then click onto the Browse button to search your computer for the photo or video file. Double click the file to upload it. Don't forget to include a caption. Submit your page for posting. Your photo or video will make up a part of that page in your room.
How do I add more than one photo on the pages I create? At this time, the programming permits only 1 photo per page created. However, there are two ways to work around this. If you want more than one photo on a page, create individual pages and add a photo to each page using the form in your room. NOTE: A minimum of 25 characters must be included on each page to generate an entry, so please enter a short paragraph on each page to go with each photo; otherwise, I will have to do it for you—I'm sure you'd rather put your own wording on the page. Don't forget to tell me what page you want each of your photos to appear on and in what order; if you don't, I will create individual pages for those photos.
A second option is to go to an outside service, such as photobucket.com. Follow their step by step process. Once you have all your desired photos uploaded, copy the appropriate html code, and then paste that code onto the form in your room.
PLEASE NOTE: I cannot provide assistance when outside services are employed.
Why do Google ad links appear on the pages I create?Google ad links are a system wide option with pages of this type. Programming does not permit inclusion or exclusion of these ad links on specific pages.
How do I get a URL activated as a link on one of my pages?Any URLs included in page submissions will be scrutinized for appropriateness. If I deem the website or blog is appropriate for my site, I will activate the link prior to posting the page. If I believe the URL is inappropriate, it will be stripped from the page submission. It may take several extra days to post the page in your room while I do the necessary search.
What if I experience problems?Contact me at Safe House Help. I'll do whatever I can to provide you with assistance.
