Female Circumcision as Child Abuse

In the past few years, I have noticed more and more female offenders victimizing both male and female children, and one other change I have heard of in the mainstream media in Canada is that of immigrants who come to Canada from countries where female genital circumcision is practiced.

I have not, however, seen any stories on any websites of cultural practices that were acceptable in the country of origin but not acceptable in the new country.

Is anyone aware of this issue? Is it a growing area of concern or is it something that just appears to pop up once in a while?

If it helps, I do know that the practice is illegal in Canada. Even if an adult female wanted a doctor to do this to her, the doctor would not be allowed to do so as it is illegal in Canada.
