An extremely worthy cause...
by: Darlene Barriere - Webmaster

CASA advocates for children in the system; they are voices for children who would otherwise not be heard. Thank you for bringing it to light here, JWC. Perhaps visitors to this site will be inspired to become an advocate for these children.

And yes, the economic downturn has meant a sharp rise in the number of child abuse cases. See my December 2008 article on this site titled The Child-Abuse-Economic-Downturn Connection.

P.S. Welcome back, JWC. I've missed your thoughtful posts.

Thank you
by: Sandra

JWC,

Thank you for the information provided...I have filled out the volunteer form and will try my best to do my part in helping out. I had been looking for places to help out and in turn help myself out (i think it would be therapeutic for me) had only come across 2 places near me well one of them I am in the process of starting a program in my community cause the closest program is about an hr away...so I am hoping once everything goes through that I will be able to open up my program in my community....keep my fingers crossed.

Again, Thank you!

Sadly This is the truth
by: Maurice

The world over even here in Ireland Child Abuse moves well down the Ladder of Priority with the enconomy issues dictating life experiences. We need to find ways and people who can keep it as a top priority for societry to still love and protect the abused. Voices on their behalf must be heard. Financial support to all the agencies who care for the abused is less. Less professional people are available to care for them and those who are there cost too much for most of the abused to receive help in the healing process. Actually alot of Lip Service is given by politicians/Church people/ Professional people while they put child-pritection guidelines in place they do not seem to put sufficient people in place to ensure the Child is protected. We who were abused are there for each other, we understand and emphatise with each others pain. That is why I need to be strong for me and know exactly That I am number one to Love and care for and then care for my nearest and dearest. Especially my true friends. Who will stand by me even with the change of heart of Society during a worsening of world wide economies

HI Sandra, congratulations on your efforts to join CASA. Hope you are successful. We do not have any such agency up here in Canada, perhaps we should.

Keep fighting the child abuse cause
by: JWC

Maurice, I am sorry to hear you have the same problem (lack of government financial support) in Ireland. But you for one, should be proud of your efforts in support of child abuse victims. I have read many of your supportive comments on this site and thy are very beneficial to those who are brave enough to share their stories here.
