We ALL bear responsibility. Too many are afraid of reporting even suspected abuse because they don't want to accuse someone who might not be guilty of harming a child. But they don't spend enough time considering that their lack of action might be putting a child in extreme danger. Even here on this site, I continue to get asked the question: Should I report this or not? And I cannot seem to get across the importance of using our intuition. If one is asking the question at all, then one suspects abuse. And if one suspects, one needs to report.

As a society, we fear what adults in authority will do. We fear a false accusation that might taint or ruin the reputation of someone who is blameless. We fear for our own reputations. And sometimes we fear more for our own safety than that of a helpless child. And all too often, we fail to fear strongly enough for the child who can least protect himself.

The answers lie with those of us who have been abused and cast aside by a society of too many who stood idly by and allowed, enabled the abuse to continue. As survivors, we can't only ask the questions, we must be willing to step forward with answers and solutions. And that starts at a base-level, where children are not considered the property of their parents. Where children are not struck. The solutions are so much more complicated than what can be discussed within this comment thread.

My heart breaks for the little boy who was so battered, so cast aside, so ignored. As I read your story, there was an inner part of me who had my arms wrapped around this little boy, comforting him, keeping the monster at bay.

Thank you for sharing your story with us, APatel. As always, I send you loving healing energy.

PREACH!
by: Breshannon

My heart and soul hear you! I've walked your very footsteps! I know the pain of being willfully ignored! Makes you wonder how people can actually sleep at night. But, it's our turn, now! We can be the saviors we never had. Be the angels who SEE the silent call, and help. I've been a Mom to the one's who didn't have one, for a long time. NOTHING IS BETTEER THAN HELPING ONE FROM A HELL YOU KNOW ALL TOO WELL!

Love and healing to you!
