Thought provoking Darlene

Economic storm after economic storm, the world as we know it is changing. Isn't it ironic that with that changing world we may be looking to our pasts in order to weather them.

Financial crisis and children
by: Gerri E. Detweiler

Darlene,

Thank you for posting this thoughtful article. Having been in the credit education field for some twenty years, I am seeing firsthand the effect of this economic crisis on so many families - both those who are used to struggling and filling the gaps with credit, as well as those who have never really known hard times. I get really angry when I read commentary from people who are simply beating people up for "bad decisions" without realizing the effects on children.

While researching my new ebook Reduce Debt, Reduce Stress, I came across numerous statistics on the effects of the financial crisis on individuals and families. Just a couple of examples:

- The economy is a significant cause of stress for 80% of Americans.
- Almost half now overeat or eat unhealthy foods to manage stress.

I will start referring my readers to your site for advice if there is potential abuse in their family, or to help them recognize the signs. Thank you for the valuable service you provide and keep up the good work. It's more important than ever.

From Darlene: Thank YOU, Gerri. Best of success with your ebook.
