A federal law...
by: Darlene Barriere - Webmaster

Sandy, statute of limitations on child abuse is a federal law. Therefore, it does not matter if the abuse happened in Manitoba, Alberta or any other province.

For the benefit of all my visitors: there is NO statute of limitations on child abuse in Canada.

Statue of Limitations~
by: Anonymous

When an accused committs a Federal crime, regardless of the age af the victim; and those who were assigned by law took no action on behalf of the victim, are they not legally responsible?

When and why, do officals invoke the statue of limtations to protect themselves instead of correcting a situation that endangers the public?

I am speaking specifically regarding crowns.

Note from Darlene: I am no longer in a position to answer queries, Anonymous, for the reasons stated on my Ask Darlene page. I suggest you consult an attorney on the legal matters. No one can answer your rhetorical question; but I understand your need to vent.

If a person was convicted of a sexual molestation of a minor and the charges were stayed for 1 year .....Then 9 years later another child comes forth and accuses and has judicial ruling of molestation in another country the same person because it also happened in canada will the convicted person be charged for both crimes if the 2nd one was proven to happen in that 1 year period?
