My credentials
by: Darlene Barriere - Webmaster

Excellent question, Marlys. Whether or not your teacher recognizes me as an expert in the field of child abuse & neglect remains to be seen.

I was certified as a Violence and Abuse Prevention Educator with the Canadian Red Cross RespectED Program in 2004; however, due to website responsibilities, I could no longer continue my volunteer responsibilities with the Program, and am therefore no longer associated directly with the Canadian Red Cross. The training entailed more than 500 hours of class time on the subject of Child Abuse & Neglect (child & youth maltreatment), including intervention and prevention, sex offender profiling, Canadian child abuse and consent laws, socio-economic and victim impact. The training materials incorporated theories and principles adopted by James Garbarino, a world re-known and respected child abuse prevention expert.

In the past, I have facilitated dozens of high school presentations and professional weekend workshops for children, youth and adults on the following:
  • Child Abuse & Neglect
  • Bullying & Harassment
  • Relationship Violence
My website has incorporated the knowledge and experience I've gained as both a trained educator and child abuse survivor.

All statistics reported on my website are referenced at the bottom of each of the applicable pages. I regret that I cannot send you any more information than what is included on the pages of my site.

While your teacher may not be in a position to recognize my credentials, I hope you, and my other visitors, learn a great deal about the worldwide epidemic that is child abuse through my website.

I wish you all the best in your research, and hope that you and others can help make a difference with regard to child abuse, today, tomorrow and all the rest of the tomorrows. If we work together, we CAN make a difference in the lives of children the world over.

Sincerely,

Darlene Barriere
