Even abusive parents can have regrets...
by: Darlene Barriere - Webmaster

It's always a sad situation when abusive parents give themselves permission to be violent against their children. I give your cousin's mother credit for realizing that her abusive actions were wrong, but admitting the error of her ways doesn't miraculously erase the damage to her daughter; although it goes a long way toward healing and recovery. Even so, violence against a child has harmful consequences on that child, consequences that need to be addressed.

While I'm delighted that your cousin has now developed a close relationship with her mother, I also hope she gets some form of counselling in order to help her deal with the emotional toll of being hit for no reason, no reason that is, except as someone to lash out at.

I wish only the best for your cousin, her mother, and for you too.
