To Trisha:
by: Darlene - Webmaster

I know you submitted your contribution quite some time ago. I've been dealing with eye issues that have made reading online a major problem. My apologies for taking so long to post.

You do bring up some excellent points, Trisha. No one can heal unless they really want to. And it isn't the job of family, friends, etc to "fix" the problems of another; it's the job of the one who is troubled, regardless of the reason.

It's not unusual for victims of abuse to misguidedly view a request for help as a sign of weakness (it's a sign of strength). Such a belief is a lingering effect of abuse, steeped in twisted messages of You are not good enough. Plus, there can be a stigma attached to asking for help: The added burden of believing that you're crazy for needing the help in the first place. Destructive beliefs like these often prevent someone from seeking out what they need for healing to begin.

You made the choice to heal, and for that, you are an inspiration to those who have yet to find their own healing path. Well done and keep spreading the word!

Thank you for sharing your perspective with my visitors and me.
