Such strength...
by: Darlene Barriere - Webmaster

Anna, you really did show a tremendous amount of strength when you escaped that torturous environment. And even more strength when you found yourself help by seeing a therapist. I'm so glad you were able to find a therapist whom you trust implicitly, one who has been there to guide you along the path toward healing and recovery. All the things you listed that you DON'T do, shows clearly how well the therapy has been working for you. Congratulations! Although the therapist had a hand in this, you still did the required work. Be very proud of that.

I just want to clarify one thing for the benefit of my visitors: In the United States, each state is responsible for adopting its own duty to report laws. As I understand, three states (New Jersey, Rhode Island and Wyoming) have yet to address a statute with regard to mandatory reporters of known or suspected child abuse. Washington IS among the states that legally require teachers and certain public officials to report. But regardless of the law, EVERYONE has a moral duty to report.

Thank you for sharing your story, Anna. And for reiterating how important it is for abuse victims to tell and to seek out some form of counselling in order to deal with the emotional residue. You are an inspiration.
