Sometimes we have to hit an even lower place in our lives in order to surrender. And I don't mean surrender the way so many people use the word. I mean letting go of what you cannot control. It means accepting what IS, and then making choices to bring goodness into your life, one step at a time. You've taken the first necessary steps. Once you get back into counseling, the next step will be to allow the process to take you where you need to go, grueling and painful as that will be. Always remember that what happened to you was not your fault. Fault lies squarely on the shoulder of your mother. You can only accept responsibility for what you've done to yourself. You had no power to choose as a child; you certainly have that power now that you're an adult. So make the decision to stop mistreating yourself. As for not reporting what that man tried to do to you, you need to put perspective on the situation. Reporting him may or may not have resulted in something different happening. Thank you for sharing your story with my visitors and me.

The sooner, the better...Darlene is right!
by: Anonymous

Sue, what your mom did to you is pathetic and ungrateful because she is truly twisted and warped and confused in her own ways of thinking. She should've known better and loved and cherished you and she needs help...but you need help too, so I hope you stay in counselling. And I also hope that you're in a safe place now.

Thank you
by: Sue

I wanted to thank you all for the kind words of wisdom and encouragement. I am happy to report that as of August 11, 2011 I have been clean and sober for 5 months and although some days are very tough, I have fought the good fight. And I am feeling better. I now see things clearly whereas before all I wanted to do from a young age was numb myself. And I did for most of my life. Not anymore! I have been in counseling for a few weeks now and it seems to be working. I'm back on an anti-depressant and it seems to be helping. So things are looking a lot better for me. Once again, thank you all for the comments. You all take care as well. Thank you
