You already KNOW how to stand strong...
by: Darlene Barriere - Webmaster

Selena, you stand strong by leaning on the people who are there to protect you and keeping you safe from harm (in your case, your father). You stand strong by finding a support system with trusted friends and perhaps family members. You stand strong with the knowledge that you lived through heinous abuse and survived to share your experiences with others. You stand strong with the understanding that you ARE worthy, that you ARE deserving of love and nurturing, dignity and respect. You stand strong with the wisdom of knowing that what happened to you was not your fault. You stand strong realizing that you are a precious and compassionate young woman, and that you will not allow what happened to you at the hands of very twisted mother turn you hostile and wanting revenge. You stand strong appreciating all the positive things that you now have in your life, a life that you are now spending with your father. You stand strong by waking up each day and putting one foot in front of the other, and then waking up the next day and putting one foot in front of the other. And as the days turn into weeks and the weeks into months, you will find yourself not just going through the motions of every day life, but actually living your life to the fullest possible.

You see, Selena, you DO know how to stand strong because you already ARE standing strong.

But standing strong does not mean that you don't need help. Standing strong means asking for help when you need it. Talk to your father. Tell him how you feel. Be honest with him about needing help. If you don't feel comfortable talking with him, then turn to a trusted teacher or a school counsellor, or perhaps the mother of a friend. Child Help at 1-800-4-A-CHILD (1-800-422-4453) is an excellent resource as well. They are staffed 24/7 with professionally trained counsellors who will listen to you. And right now, Selena, you probably need people to listen to you.

And Selena, you'll note I removed the lovely photograph you included of yourself. I did so in order to protect your privacy.

Thank you for sharing even just a little bit of your story with my visitors and me. And KEEP standing strong.

A Sadist for a Mom...and a Guardian Angel for a Dad
by: Francine

Selena, your so-called mom is wrong. You are not worthless; you are worthy of love, dignity and respect. I'm so sorry that you had to live with a mom that actually took pleasure in prostituting you as well as herself. However, I am glad that your father is with you now cuz he is soooo sweet for doing that; I just hope that your so-called mom finally gets incarcerated for all those horrible crimes that she committed against you.
