Rachael, I'll name it for you: you were sexually assaulted. See my sexual abuse page on this site for more information. At 18 years of age, he knew what he was doing was wrong and illegal. His mother probably took notes as she interrogated you in order to protect her son if it ever went to court. You were too young to have any idea what to do about it; that WAS the job of your parents. I suggest you check with the New Zealand authorities to determine if historical child abuse disclosures can be heard, because it is very possible he is offending against his own children, who cannot protect themselves.

It was abuse.
He did know better. He was a bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad bad person. I may seem like i'm ranting but i can't emphasize that enough you ARE NOT at fault

 Parents must protect their children from such people

Rachel M Darlene has called a spade a spade for you and named what you were finding difficult to name. How his mother did not tell him in front of you that he sexually abused you instead of questioning you and writing down your answers. She certainly was part of what he did by her attitude. Defending his actions. Your parents should have named and shamed him by reporting him on your behalf. You were brave to tell your friends what he did to you that what real friends are for. She too knew he did wrong thing to her and was brave enough to tell her mother. Rachel M stop being confused about it all now. You were sexually abused at the most innocent and vulnerable childhood years. I spent time in New Zealand and I came across many abuse cases but what laws they have to deal with abuse I've forgotten. Do try as Darlene suggests find out what the law is in dealing with past abusers. I hope you are lucky and can get justice. Yes as Darlene mentions he possibly could be abusing his children the way he abused you and the other girls. So Rachel M get all the help you need to deal with your memories of that abuse. Good place to begin is with a therapist and then with the help of your friends you'll begin to have a life for yourself. I can, I will, I must. Built up your own Self worth Self esteem by having a good mirror image of yourself. I'M SPECIAL AND I LOVE ME. HUG THAT BEAUTIFUL/PRETTY ME IN THE MIRROR. BE GENTLE AND KIND TO YOUR OWN BODY NOW ERASE THOSE AWFUL MEMORIES OF SEXUAL ABUSE BY SOOTHING THOSE BEAUTIFUL PARTS OF YOUR BODY WITH WHATEVER TO MASSAGE THEM.
