Things shouldn't have happened the way they did...
by: Darlene Barriere - Webmaster

You didn't deserve to have a mother hooked on drugs. You didn't deserve to be treated so violently by her boyfriend. Your mother should have been there to love and nurture and protect you. You deserved that, Phylicia. It was your birthright.

I'm so glad you were determined to tell until someone listened. Someone should have listened much sooner. The school should NEVER have told your mother what you disclosed to them; they should have reported your disclosure to Child Protection Services, who in turn should have investigated and removed you from such a corrupt home environment.

I'm delighted that you are now with what seems to be loving grandparents, and that you are in a good school and have friends. That's the way life is supposed to be for teenagers, that's the way life is supposed to be for YOU.

Life will continue to get better for you, Phylicia, because you're courageous, resilient, and because you have such a strong sense of what is right and wrong. Stay in school, enjoy your friends, and if at all possible, talk to a counsellor about the emotional stuff you are dealing with. You're worth it, Phylicia, you are definitely worth it.
