Don't stop telling...
by: Darlene Barriere - Webmaster

Nikki, I'm delighted that you had a teacher so willing to help you, and I'm so sorry DCF let you down after you had finally disclosed what your father was doing to you. Not only do you deserve to be treated with dignity and respect by your father, when he WASN'T—ISN'T—treating you the way he should, the people mandated to protect you should have stepped up to the plate.

Please don't stop disclosing when you are being abused. Sometimes it takes more than one report and disclosure for DCF to take note and take charge. Keep your head up, and know that what your father is doing to you isn't your fault. Don't lose faith, Nikki. The system may well have failed you, but that doesn't mean you have to internalize that failure. You are a worthy, articulate, and smart young woman who has much to offer the world. Don't EVER forget that. Don't ever let what your father is doing to you take all those wonderful characteristics away from you; they are yours to claim regardless of his mistreatment of you.

When you need someone to talk to, I urge you to contact Child Help at 1-800-4-A-CHILD (1-800-422-4453). They are staffed 24/7 with professionally trained counsellors who will listen to you. They are not a reporting agency, but they can help you through the process if you decide to disclose, once again, the abuse you are still dealing with.

wow...
by: Cassie1

wow I can definately connect to your story.. although I can't help you much.. I do strongly hope you get the courage to call the DCF again.. I also found some help in teachers but they didn't call... cause there was no proof... All I really told them was that my parents had a drinking problem at home... I am very glad that your teacher stood up and told GCF... You may be glad but at the same time not so glad.. cause it hurts a lot that they would leave you there in that house... The child services did this to me... and that is the reason I am still in this home with no help... of course they tried by sending a list of places to get help to my parents.. but my parents didn't take it.. I also think you should keep talking to that teacher... or maybe another teacher that you know you can trust... And try to get the GCF to take action! I have much courage in you! I know you can make it!! I know you are strong enough! Just keep your head high!
Stay strong, Never give up,
Cassie1
