Each path is unique...
by: Darlene Barriere - Webmaster

What happened to you at the hands of that predator is called "grooming". In that way, he was every bit the predator that most are; only he was ahead of the Internet curve. You have nothing to feel guilt or shame about. He WAS guilty of sexual assault of a minor, therefore, he was destined to face the criminal justice system for that crime. You were a child; he was the adult. Don't EVER lose sight of that.

It sounds as though you're ready to find healing in your life for the sake of both you and your daughter. I applaud and commend you for that.

Each person's path toward healing and recovery is unique; and there is no one right way. I suggest you start by reading through the stories on this site and the comments attached to each. There you'll find loads of information on approaches to healing, including the use of therapy. You'll also find validations and encouragement that will apply to you every bit as much as it applies to the person it was directed to.

I also suggest you read my article on this site titled Why parents target a specific child for abuse for a possible explanation about why your mother may have singled you out.

Thank you for sharing you story with my visitors and me. I do wish you all the best. And remember, the best gift you can gift your daughter is to take really good care of her mother.
