It is always so disturbing to learn that the adults and the entire system failed a child (many children) so profoundly. It's not only remarkable that you survived, but that you thrived! And not only did you thrive, you broke the cycle of abuse; that took courage and determination and more intestinal fortitude than most can imagine. I commend and applaud you for your commitment to your children and for ensuring they never had to endure what you endured. As for your scars, it would be a terrible tragedy to continue to look at those scars and be "disgusted with yourself". Allow me to suggest a paradigm shift: that you were stronger than what tried to hurt you; that those scars are not representing what that psychotic excuse of a father did to you, but rather, it represents the amazing strength you had to survive; that your mind, body & spirit were all determined to move forward in the same way that you were determined never to turn out like your abusive father. Your scars are a symbol of your survival. Embrace them. They are a part of you that shows how strong you really are. And you ARE strong. VERY strong. I send you love, light and healing energy. Thank you for sharing your story with my visitors and me.
