The fact that you recognize you have a problem with alcohol is huge, because you can't change what you don't acknowledge. I commend and applaud that you do acknowledge this problem. Now it's time to get your Self the help you need. Check out Alcoholics Anonymous or other such groups. Whether you see it or not, your children DO know and ARE affected. Perhaps not to the degree you were with your mother, but children know something is wrong, and they will blame themselves. That's what children do. It was wrong that you were put into the situation you were put into when you were you growing up. You were forced to be the parent when you were the child. And your father put you in an impossible position asking you the question he did. If you had answered honestly you would have felt as though you had betrayed your mother. Wrong all the way around. Spare your children this fate. They deserve to have a healthy mother. And before you tell you Self that you're not that bad with alcohol at this point, remember that if you don't stop, the alcohol will rule. The person that you are will change and overtaken by the alcohol. Seek out the help you need. Counselling or therapy can help you to deal with all that you endured as a child, which is in part the reason you are drinking now. You and your children deserve that kind of help. You've forgiven your mother; it's time to forgive your Self. I send you love, light and healing energy, Laura. Thank you for sharing your story with my visitors and me.
