I discovered true healing when I began to give my Self what I needed. When I stopped looking to others for what was already in me. I've also come to know that I can tell my Self any story I want. I can choose to replace the terrible memories with new ones. For example, when someone gives you a gift, replace the old story of what-does-that-person-want-from-me to someone-cares-enough-about-me-to-bring-me-a-lovely-gift...how wonderful is that! When we focus on the negative, we get inundated with more negative. But when we instead allow our Selves to see the positive, more of that comes into our reality. There will always be triggers, Irene. It's what you tell your Self about those triggers that determines whether you're still IN victimland or walking the healing path toward a neighbourhood I'll call thrivehood. You have it in you, and you always have. I send you love, light and healing energy. Thank you for sharing your story with my visitors and me.

I became a nurse, too
by: Anonymous

Hi Irene,
Just a note of support... I too became a nurse. And it helped me a lot to care for others as I wanted to be cared for. I made many mistakes as a nurse and eventuallly stopped working altogether. I earned a degree in art while I was working as a nurse, too.
I am amazed at how many people have actually helped me along the way... in my pain, and my embarrassment at having been sexualized so young (seven) I couldn't see they were being so kind.
I like what Darlene tells you - that you can tell yourself any story you want... to get over the negative experiences.
Iam currently thinking about a story called Hunting Unicorns" about my experiences with so many young men friends. I have been married to a wonderful person who is a physical therapist for the laast 25 years.
I just want to say I get what you have experienced and I understand how sad you can feel about the things you can't change.

Take care.
Emily
