You are talented!
by: Darlene Barriere

The photo is lovely, Desere. Even though I've stated that I do not accept photos in this category, the quality of it is so good, the colour is so sharp and crisp that I decided it was too worthy NOT to post it with your story. The caption you included is perfect. Very poetic and profound.

And about your story, I strongly urge you to contact Child Help USA, Desere. They have professional counsellors on hand 24/7 who will listen to you. Right now, you need someone to listen to you.

You deserved to be believed when you told your mother what your step-dad did to you. You did not deserve to be treated the way your step-dad treated you, and you certainly did not deserve for your mother to tell you that you imagined it.

Before I finish my comments, I want you to know that you are a wonderful sister. You are filled with empathy and heart and compassion; that is evident in the way you tried to protect your little brother. I hope nothing but the best for you, dear.

To Forgive or Not To Forgive
by: Anonymous

Hi Desere

I am really sorry for all you have gone through.

I am a FIRM believer that we do not have to forgive our abusers. I believe it helps to let (at least some of) the anger go so we do not take it out on ourself and others who are important to us. But we do not have to let the abusers off the hook by forgiving them. In my opinion they do not deserve it.

I feel your pain
by: Francine

I Feel your pain, Desere, because I'm sorry about what your mom and your step-dad did to you. If you'd get to go to college, why don't you tell somebody about what your parents did to you? I'm also proud of you for trying to protect your little brother from your mother. It is also best if you told the counselor about it, and then the police, so that telling someone will save your life, like whenever I get hit or criticized, I always tell somebody what happened to me, and I think that you should do the same like I did.
