I believe you and I HEAR you...
by: Darlene Barriere - Webmaster

Anonymous, you're in the depths of despair. Many of us child abuse survivors have been there, including myself, so I can understand you saying "don't want to talk about it"; I also hear you need to talk about it.

Honey, you don't want to die. What you want is to be out of pain. What you want is for someone to listen to you, someone to hear you, someone to understand and acknowledge the very real pain you are in. You want—you NEED—to be believed. You want—you NEED—to be protected. You need love. You need to know that you are loved and lovable and worthy and special. And you know what? You ARE lovable. You ARE worthy. You ARE special. Don't take the word of your abusers; they're abusers, for god sake. Their words and the messages they've sent with their actions and lack of actions are all lies; lies that you've come to believe. What do they know!

Hurting...oh yes. Harmed...most definitely. Defective...not even remotely, not in a million years!

Please, get yourself some help. If you are a minor, consider contacting the people at Child Help at 1-800-4-A-CHILD (1-800-422-4453) in order to talk to someone. They are staffed 24/7 with professionally trained counsellors who will listen to you. They are not a reporting agency, although they can help you through the process of reporting if you decide to disclose.

If not Child Help, contact a crisis center. Talk to someone about what you are feeling. Don't shut yourself away. Don't shut people out. There are people who want to help you. Not everyone is like your abusers. But you must open yourself up for such people to be able to enter in and get you some help. You took a brave first step by writing your story here on my site; and I congratulate and thank you for that. Take the next step. You so deserve that next step.
