Your stepfather was a very controlling person. He wasn't concerned about you as much as he was all about ensuring he stayed in control, showed who was "boss". A very misguided and power-based approach to parenting, one that many still believe is the right way. We both know that it isn't. But the fact that your mother did not stand up for you clearly shows she was a party to that control, or at the very least, an enabler of it. What's important now is to use that situation, and other situations, of which I'm sure there are many, in a way that is purposeful. A way that can help others. With your own children, for example. With your own parenting. Perhaps there's a way for you to bring to light the negative effects of such parenting approaches, and the positive effects of a better way. In other words, turn your pain into power. I send you love, light and healing energy, Anon. Thank you for sharing your story with my visitors and me.
