You CAN tell, but you must first release yourself from the shame, shame that is not yours to carry. What happened was NOT your fault. You did nothing to ask for it or to invite it into your life. Your abuser is to blame. It's he that bears the shame. Responsibility lies squarely on his shoulders, not yours. You were a child; he was the adult. He misused the power he had over you and took advantage of your vulnerabilities and fears. And to blame yourself today for what you did or did not do is to apply mature adult values on yourself as a little girl. The next time you have a chance to see a 5-year-old girl, take a good look and then you'll understand why you were not to blame. Also understand that there is a dynamic present between a child and their abuser, one that is often spiked with fear, fear that can be crippling, which is often why the abuse can continue for years and years. So please, stop blaming yourself for what is not your fault. And please seek out some form of counseling in order to deal with the life long repercussions of what this pedophile did to you. You did not deserve to be sexually abused. You DO deserve help for the fact that you were. Thank you for sharing your story with my visitors and me.
