Amber-Nadine Lockwood

What you have told us about Nadine Lockwood is what keeps me awake at night- and what keeps going over and over in my mind is why are there so many Nadines all over this world? Where did the human race make this terrible decision that a little one's life has absolutely no value- IT is not worthy of love and protection, of a simple right of a child to exist?

Many years ago I was a member of a child welfare board. Meeting after meeting I had to endure a tri-county case worker from child protective services boring us for ten minutes of his time- just long enough to get the board to sign off on recommending our county pay the counties share of foster home care payments on new cases. One meeting, I finally lost it and ask about the kids we were paying the state to remove from their homes, seperate them from their families, start them on a journey of being a ward of the state, change the lives forever in many cases.

The case worker looked me straight in the eyes and said, "Thank God someone finally wants to know about these kids, not just seeing them as tax dollar signs".

From that day on, I have held to the notion you only have to ask the right questions, at the right times, to the right people who have the authority and the obligation to respond, and where it concerns little Nadines, DEMAND ANSWERS until you get them.

If you, Amber, can be the instrument it getting just one Nadine saved, you have saved all of the Nadines of the world. I will remember Nadine Lockwood and the Amber who cared. "Thank God for Amber".
