Perhaps you can contact the organizer...
by: Darlene Barriere - Webmaster

Sandra, I'm so sorry that this worthy event seems to have fizzled out due to lack of participation. While I make no excuses, perhaps one explanation is the fact that there was a $25 fee for the 5K run and a $20 fee for the 1-mile run; perhaps many could not afford it with the economy the way it is. Sadly, child abuse causes tend to be among the first of the causes to lose funding during such economic downturns. What makes it even sadder and more aggravating is the fact that child abuse itself rises exponentially during such times. It is during these times especially that we need to support such causes.

You and your family banded together to support the cause; be proud of that. Be proud of the fact that your intent was to turn pain into power by participating yourself and by bringing your whole family along for the day. Your hearts were certainly in the right place.

Perhaps you can contact the organizer to voice your thoughts on this matter. If you haven't already, they can be reached at K.I.D.S. Foundation 813-727-0786. Perhaps your voice can lend a much needed hand for next year's event.

Thank you for sharing your experience and thoughts about this, Sandra. I know it took a great deal of courage for you to do this, as it revisits some very painful memories to do so. Just remember: at your own pace and on your own terms. I for one see you as having a GREAT deal of courage.

And by the way, I LOVE the photo you included! You have a wonderful support system.
