I would say that most mothers-to-be don't go into motherhood expecting to or planning to abuse their babies. The rigors of motherhood often overtake them. But child abuse is such a complicated issue. There's the person's background, what they endured growing up, what their beliefs are, plus a host of other human things that contribute to the scourge that is child abuse.

I agree that becoming a mother IS a blessing, one that comes with a great deal of responsibility. The more a woman is prepared for that responsibility and the more she has a support system to lean on when motherhood arrives, the more likely her child will not suffer through abuse.
