I agree wholeheartedly. The fact is, although not the cause of child abuse, poverty significantly raises the risk for child abuse. The words "poverty" and "deprivation" in my view are synonymous. As long as society refuses to see the link, ALL forms of abuse will continue to rise, especially in areas where poverty already exists at every level. In so many ways, society is moving backward, not forward; we haven't learned the lessons of the past, or we've forgotten them. Thank you for sharing more of yourself with my visitors and me, Elaine, and for sharing your thoughts on what has become an epidemic throughout the world.

The True Value of a comment:: Always believe in YOURSELF
by: maurice

Yes, what a letter: you sure put much in focus: There are many places throughout the Globe as you describe: Sadly for a great percent who are forced to live in such areas are abused and deprived: Many childre/adoulecents are abused daily even though they don't regard it so as they take it for granted that is my lott; Many depraved people even parents abuse autromatically in ghetto's and places you describe: You draw a very sad scenario/picture; I hope you are trying to make peoples lives more livable and more loving and respecting of each other where you are at: It ain't easy but you tell the truth: Only last week A priest who has journeyed with Drug Addicts for over thirty years and is now experiencing a third generation ruining their lives has asked the Govenment to take babies/children away from their drug addicted parenst so they will have some chance of making a real sense of life: Human nature Life is tough, a mystery, Thankfully 75% of society even living where you describe, Families, young people, love and cherish each other in order to value and respect each other: Gloom is exactly what you describe but their are great human beings who care, love, value, human life enough to rid such places of the depravity that goes on in such places: Only you and I can blossom where we are at and do our best for our fellow Man/woman to live well: laugh alot: LOVE much:
