This case of child neglect is definitely child abuse
by: JWC

What was this woman thinking? What would she have told the parent if this child had been abducted because of her negligence? Good on you for reporting her [before it became an Amber Alert].

I'd sure want to know this happened if I was the parent of this little boy. I'd have him out of that daycare in a shot!

There are other risks than being kidnapped
by: RT

Forget being kidnapped. Cars do tend to heat up very quickly, especially in the summer. That toddler could have died from heat exhaustion. In fact, such tragedies seem to be more common than kidnappings by total strangers are.

A response to RT
by: Darlene Barriere - webmaster

I agree that babies and toddlers DO all too often die of heat exhaustion when neglectful caregivers leave them in cars, especially during the hot summer months. I also agree that heat exhaustion (and death by it) is typically a far greater danger than kidnapping. However, in this case, both passenger side doors were wide open, allowing fresh air to circulate in the vehicle. The child I reported about here was more in danger of being taken by someone than he was of suffering heat exhaustion.

I thank you for pointing out the other very real dangers of leaving a child unattended in a vehicle.
