Healing is important too, not just initiative. Healing is the greatest gift you can give to yourself. Healing allows you to release all the anger and hatred and hostility so that you are free from the prison these emotions and feelings lock us into. What happened to you at the hands of your mother is indefensible. And the distance you've chosen as a result of her continued abuse is a very healthy thing. The fact that you have a loving grandmother who has provided you with safety and so much more is such a blessing to you. And though your relationship with Matt seems to be the most important thing to you right now, if you don't make healing the priority, your relationship with him may prove more and more challenging as time moves forward, especially if you want to bring children into the fold. You've come so far already...don't stop now. You've got the gift of tenacity; I commend and applaud that in you. But continue with your education. Utilize any and all resources available to you while in college. resources that help bring more healing into your life. You didn't deserve to be so terribly mistreated. You certain deserve help for the fact that you were. I send you love, light and healing energy, Bri. Thank you for sharing your story with my visitors and me.

Such uncontrolled sadism
by: Anonymous

Bri, THANK GOODNESS YOU SURVIVED!!! As for the fact that they forced you to lie to the DCFS, that says that as much as they knew what they did was (and still is) wrong, they didn't care enough to stop doing that; that makes them extremely dangerous. If not for moving in with your grandma, you would've been in further danger and they would've been more likely to further brutalize you. Child abuse (and other kinds of abuse) is a vile, nasty thing and children are gifts to treasure, not to abuse, so TELL, TELL, TELL!!!

The dignity you still deserve

Bri, it's good that you got out of that house because as long as you're willing to heal, no more secrets can and will help break the cycle of abuse and helplessness. Please look into reporting them.
As for your grandma, hats off to her to having you move in with her because she's a hero!

Hi! I am so sorry,Bri! That you had to go through that abuse! Thank God,that you were strong to leave and move on!! You should tell DCYF now what had happen to you on how your mom had you lie to them. If you plan to have children do keep your mom away and let the police know to keep a watch so that she don't come around to cause trouble for you and your children. May God watch over you!
