Forgive, yes; but what about forget?
by: Darlene Barriere - webmaster

I'm thrilled that you have found happiness in your life, Patricia, and that you have found a man who is loving and supportive. You certainly deserve that.

I completely agreed that it is possible to heal the scars of abuse. And while I agree that forgiveness is one of the keys to moving forward, there is no forgetting. And I'm not sure we should forget. After all, if we forget, we are doomed to repeat the past, or others who follow in our footsteps may be doomed to repeat that past. I'm not talking about the emotional residue here; I'm talking about the actual abuse. The emotional stuff MUST be dealt with, and when that happens, the emotions lessen and cease to be all-controlling. And when the all-controlling emotions are taken care of, forgiveness is possible, and then the scars truly do heal.
