So unimaginable . . .
by: Darlene Barriere

What your father took from you and Josh, the life he took that was Katie, your beloved baby sister, was inconceivable. There are no words that can adequately relate to the physical and emotional pain and suffering you have endured, Rachael. The fact that your murderous father is in prison for the rest of his life is of little consolation.

As I see it, the monster that is your father did not succeed in crushing your soul into dust; exactly the opposite. You are strong. You are a survivor. You are here today for a purpose, a purpose that I have every confidence you will find and fulfill; of this I have no doubt. Stay strong, Rachael—when you do, you ensure that Katie did not die in vain.

Unspeakable!
by: Francine

Rachael, what your "dad" did to you, your brother and your sister is NOT excuseable at all! A man is supposed to love, feed, bathe, teach, dress, care for and at least protect his kids, yet he chose to delight in savagely torturing and brutally beating you guys instead! That is not fair! As for your sister, I'm so sorry for your loss because Katie wasn't supposed to die at all; that is so sad! As for your brother, I'm so glad that he saved your life by calling the police on your "so-called dad" (excuse my French). I'm also so happy that your dad is sent to jail forever because that place is where he deserves and will always deserve, no matter what! As for you and your brother, you both might want to try a lot of counselling if you're still having problems about your past. I will alwys pray for you, your brother and your little sister (and whoever will be next). Peace.

I always knew life was hard and unfair. But what I didn't realize is that I had it easy compared to others. You and your siblings went through a lot. Kids don't really know what to do when they are being abused. Most think its okay, that that is just how it works. But its not okay, i just wish that kids would find the courage in themselves to go to someone about it before it does take a life. No one deserves to die, mainly at such a young age.

All my luck and prayers are with you as you continue down the road to a better more positve life.

school, teachers, and secretary??????
by: My Two Cents

The most disturbing part to me of your story is the fact that teachers and people associated with the school SAW clear evidence of violent physical abuse and apparently did nothing. What in the world!? People who work in the school system are known as "mandated reporters."

What that term means is that they are required by law and their professional licensing bodies to report suspicions of child abuse. There is no way that people could have failed to notice something was wrong. Kids don't get black and blue from rough play, especially not day in and day out for years.

I have no idea if you read these comments still or if you want to consider this idea, but I wonder if you could sue the school for "failure to protect" or something? It won't make up for the abuse but perhaps a hefty financial punishment will teach the school boards to make certain their staff (teachers, etc) are doing their jobs and helping kids.

I am still asking myself what in the world were your teachers thinking, especially when you came with injuries this severe day after day....

I hope that you are safe and remain so. Be well.

My Two Cents.

So many crimes committed

Rachael, I'm glad that your so-called dad is in prison now because he's too dangerous to be trusted. As for your mom, where was she? As for your sister, may she rest in peace. Sorry for your loss.
