Try not to beat yourself up for waiting 5 months. The fact is, you have the right to report and have action taken, even after 5 months. What you don't know is what the police would have done had you reported right away. Sometimes the police make excuses. That's not all the time, but this site is full of stories where the police either dropped the ball or simply made the decision not to investigate.

Your brother is sick and twisted...learned behaviour from a violence father and a mother who chose not to intervene. And you're the one who has paid the price. I don't know if contacting the people at the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) will help or not, but I suggest you try. They have advocates available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week who can provide crisis intervention, escape planning, information and referrals to victims or anyone calling on their behalf. Visit their website by copying & pasting the following URL into your browser: http://www.ndvh.org/

You are strong, not weak. Even when you stayed quiet, that doesn't make you weak. It makes you afraid. There's a big difference. The fact is, you're determine now. Keep holding your head high and not accepting abuse. I send you love, light and healing energy, Gissele. Thank you for sharing your story with my visitors and me.
