I believe you
by: Darlene Barriere - Webmaster

Dayna, I don't know what the laws are in Jamaica, so I can't direct you to any organization that can help you. What I will say is that the person you told should have believed you when you disclosed that your father was sexually abusing you. You had every right to get angry when that person did not believe you. But I believe you, Dayna, I believe you.

You say you ran away from home, but you didn't say how old you are now, or if you are now living in a safe place. I hope you are safe. And I hope your father has to pay for the criminal acts he committed against you. He deserves to be in prison for what he did to you. You should have had a loving, supportive and protective father. You certainly didn't deserve to be molested. And I hope you know that none of what happened was your fault, Dayna, because it wasn't your fault.

If you know of counselling resources available to you in your country, I strongly urge you to seek them out. You're worth getting help for yourself.

It has taken me several days to post this story, Dayna, because I have been trying to find helpline resources for you in Jamaica; to no avail at this time, I'm very sorry to say.

To my other visitors: If you know of a helpline for abused children in Jamaica, please let me know what it is so that I can publish it on my site.

Thank you for providing this information. The URL below does provide phone numbers for reporting abuse, but I have yet to find a hotline for Jamaica that is geared toward counselling child abuse victims, something like Child Help in the USA and Kids Help in Canada. If anyone can supply a number, please let me know.

I'm sorry danya

I have been through almost the same thing, i think. At 13 years old, it's so confusing. I've felt the anger, the guilt for being angry, the confusion, the lack of validation. There's nothing I can say that can make you feel better but all I can say is that you're not alone.
