Parents, stepparents, girlfriends (or boyfriends) of parents do not have the right to throw a child down a set of stairs. No one does. No one has the right to harm a child. Abusers gain their power with threats, intimidation and by frightening the child into keeping the secret. If you are still a minor child and still dealing with abuse, please tell someone you trust: a teacher, a counsellor, an elder in the community, or perhaps another family member or the parents of a friend. If you are a minor child, I suggest you contact Child Help at 1-800-4-A-CHILD (1-800-422-4453) in order to talk to someone. They are staffed 24/7 with professionally trained counsellors who will listen to you. They are not a reporting agency, although they can help you through the process of reporting if you decide to disclose the abuse. I don't approve of or condone spanking of children under any circumstances, but you must understand that spanking is not considered abuse in the United States, unless it is SO severe that it causes serious harm. Only then does it become child abuse under the law. And even then, there are misguided judges who allow what I consider to be criminal behaviour from parents and guardians to go on with impunity. You deserve to be treated with dignity and respect and love. But you must also show dignity and respect, both for yourself and for others. I send you love, light and healing energy, Briana.
