While growing up, I was exposed to many forms of abuse. When I was little, my mom kicked me and hit me for every little thing. I never had a real Dad. From the time I was born, I lived with my step-dad. As long as I could remember, he abused me in MANY different ways.

When I hit eighth grade, I finally told someone. They told the school, who called Children in Youth. I finally had no choice but to tell my mother.

At first, my mother didn't know what to believe. After all that, we filed for a PFA (Protection from Abuse), and he was removed from the house for 90 days. During those 90 days, we processed all of it to go through court. The court informed us that the abuse was unfounded. They failed to do an investigation.

Being the type of person that I am, I am pursuing a career in law enforcement to protect women and children from abuse.

I believe that going through all of this has helped me realized how much life means to you and how easy it is for someone to ruin it for you, but how it could also make you a stronger person.

You may think, "Oh, this will never happen to me." I thought that same thing, and it did happen to me, so don't think it won't happen to you.
