The following child abuse story from Pete depicts: physical abuse at the hands of his father and older brother
The child abuse effects on Pete: other than estrangement from his father, Pete didn’t share the effects the child abuse had on him
When I was little, things were going great. But when I was 10, my mother died. It was the 2nd wife my father lost. I have an older brother, Hunter, and a younger sister, Meg. (It was Hunter’s mom that was my father’s first wife; she died giving birth).
After my mom died, everything started to go to hell. My father beat me and my brother for anything that went wrong. Then Hunter started to get mad and retaliate. After Dad beat the shit out of me and left for the bar, Hunter started yelling at me, telling me what a screw up I was. He’d hit me until I passed out or he grew too exhausted.
Hunter got kicked out of high school for terrible grades, skipping classes, and beating on others for any little thing. He got sent to the army--got kicked out of there too, because he killed someone in his unit. By this time, he grew even angrier, and a lot stronger, too.
When my girlfriend broke up with me, telling me she was pregnant with some other dudes baby, I flew off the handle. The previous night, I’d come home passed my curfew and told Hunter not to tell. But he did. And I got beat for it extensively. He was continuing my father’s legacy, kicking and punching me. I was nearly passed out, but I finally got away and ran to my friend’s place.
Hunter went to jail for the fifth time that year for burning down a building. He got out early, having a friend bail him out again. A month later, he died of a brain tumor. He never knew he had it.
Me and my dad haven’t spoken since the funeral. At the funeral, all he did was blame me and give me a few more sneers and snarls.
Me and Meg are still on good terms. I’m about to get married. Things are starting to shape up.
