Question on Credentials

by Marlys W
(California, USA)

I'm a high school student who is trying to do a research paper on the effects of child abuse, but my teacher won't let me use your website unless I know your credentials and degrees that you hold. Would you please consider sending this information?

Note from Darlene: My answer to this Ask Darlene question "Question on Credentials" can be found at the link below.

My credentials
by: Darlene Barriere - Webmaster

Excellent question, Marlys. Whether or not your teacher recognizes me as an expert in the field of child abuse & neglect remains to be seen.

I was certified as a Violence and Abuse Prevention Educator with the Canadian Red Cross RespectED Program. The training entailed more than 500 hours of class time on the subject of Child Abuse & Neglect (child & youth maltreatment), including intervention and prevention, sex offender profiling, Canadian child abuse and consent laws, socio-economic and victim impact. The training materials incorporated theories and principles adopted by James Garbarino, a world re-known and respected child abuse prevention expert.

I have facilitated dozens of high school presentations and professional weekend workshops. I am certified to facilitate workshops for children, youth and adults on the following:
  • Child Abuse & Neglect
  • Bullying & Harassment
  • Relationship Violence
  • Violence in Sports
My website has incorporated the knowledge and experience I've gained as both a trained and certified educator and child abuse survivor.

All statistics reported on my website are referenced at the bottom of each of the applicable pages. I regret that I cannot send you any more information than what is included on the pages of my site.

While your teacher may not be in a position to recognize my credentials, I hope you, and my other visitors, learn a great deal about the worldwide epidemic that is child abuse through my website.

I wish you all the best in your research, and hope that you and others can help make a difference with regard to child abuse, today, tomorrow and all the rest of the tomorrows. If we work together, we CAN make a difference in the lives of children the world over.

Sincerely,

Darlene Barriere
