Never heard of relationship violence
by: JWC

I've heard of domestic violence, but never relationship violence. Once again, I've learned something here.

I read your comments before they were removed from this page. I can only imagine what you have lived through to carry such hostility toward people like me who didn't know the information that was written in the article "Is this type of violence considered child abuse?"

I am 63 years old. When I grew up, the term relationship violence did not exist. Abuse and violence was kept in the closet. Rarely, if ever, did one hear about dating violence. Living in a small town, everyone was protective of what they called "private information". Parents screened their children from any of this stuff, and certainly it was not taught in the schools. It wasn't only not taught in the schools, it wasn't even mentioned in the schools.

The reason I am aware of domestic violence is that I read the papers and watch the news. I can't say that I've ever heard or read about anything that uses the term "relationship violence". I thank God that kids today have this information provided to them in the schools.

People should be understanding that not everyone has the same access to information. They really should applaud that the information is now available to all, rather than to criticize or demean someone's lack of knowledge.
