Is it ever too late?

by Janet B
(Toronto, Ontario, Canada)

I was raped by a male babysitter when I was eight years old. I didn't tell my mother for four long years. When I told her what happened and by who, she told me he'd gone on to rape a five-year-old and was caught and put in a mental institution. I would like to confirm this and maybe even pursue some type of legal action. Unfortunately, this was forty years ago. Do you think I have any options?

It's never too late in Canada

I've covered this topic before, Janet; therefore, I'm going to refer you to my comments on two other submissions on my website. When you get to the two pages listed below, you'll have to scroll down to the end of each page to read what I've written.Janet, should you decided to go ahead and make a statement with the police on this matter, talk with them about whether or not you can obtain any information on the previous case. You may also have to consult with an attorney.

If you haven't already, I urge you to seek out some form of counselling in order to help you deal with the emotional residue of this babysitter's molestation of you. You're worth the help and support, Janet.
