On the right track . . .
by: Darlene Barriere - webmaster

Yonda, the tragic and sudden death of your father certainly did not justify the way your mother treated you. Calling you "cripple" and "stupid" was WAY out of line; she had no right to call you down. And the physical abuse she exacted on you was nothing short of criminal. I hope she's in prison for the scars she caused. And you're right; the babysitter should have seen the red flags of abuse when she saw the severe bruising on you. She should have reported suspicion of abuse right then and there.

I'm glad you and your sister were able to find safety with your grandmother. You should be very proud of yourself for going to college. You have a great attitude about the future. That positive outlook will definitely keep you on the right track.

What the hell
by: LLS Buffalo

Dear Yonda,
What the hell? How dare her do that to you. I just want to scream in her face right now. I am glad you are in college. I am an art teacher and I made it through as well. I am glad you did. Man. I am very careful to report everything I even think is abuse amoung my students. I don't care who likes it and who doesn't F them. If they have nothing to hide then at least I didn't stand by like a nobody. Thanks for writing that story. I hope the best for you there in sunny California. Take care. It's your life now and it sure sounds like you got yourself together in spite of it all. Good luck.

So sorry...T_T
by: Francine

Yonda, I'm so sorry about what your mom had to put you through although at least she spared Juliana, your twin sister. As for your mom brutally throwing hot oil at your back, that's not right at all! Well, I'm glad that you and Juliana are in a safe place with your grandma! Well, my parents yell at me, argue with me, and hit me, too, but they haven't done more than that! You might want to try some counselling.
