A confusing time...
by: Darlene Barriere - Webmaster

V, this is a very confusing time for you. Follow your gut. Don't question your intuition. It will never steer you wrong.

As a teenager, this boy assaulted you sexually. Whether he was old enough or mature enough to understand that what he did was inappropriate, I cannot say. But you WERE under 10 years of age; your parents had a responsibility to protect you. I was surprised that your parents would so willingly allow you to—actually, expect you to—sleep next to this boy who was (is) 3 or 4 years older than you, and also with your brother (whom I gather is around the same age as this other boy). I shook my head in dismay when I read that your parents "looked at [you] kind of confused" when you "raised a big stink about how [you] wanted [your] brother to sleep in the middle..."

You need help sorting out your emotional turmoil, V. I strongly recommend you seek out some form of counselling to help you put into perspective what happened to you. A counsellor may be able to help you with your confusion regarding this boy. And a professional may be able to help you decide whether or not you want to confront this boy over his actions of the past.

Also, I want you to know that tomorrow or the next day I will be posting another story (from Samantha B) that is currently in queue that you might find helpful. While the story is quite different than yours, the way she told her father what happened to her as a very young girl may be helpful to you.
