Since I was 5 years old we had a male family friend about 13 years old who lived with us. He often looked after me when my parents were away. He used to supervise me during baths/toileting, etc. I remember one day, he showed me his penis and asked me to suck it like a "lollipop". At that age I had no idea what was happening, and went along with him, perhaps partly excited about discovering the unknown sexual knowledge. He did it every opportunity he got and kept telling me not to tell my parents. He even 'rewarded' me by sucking on my privates after he made me suck his. Even at that young age, it did feel good, so I went along with the abuse. All this lasted at least a year, till he left our house. No one knows this happened to me. But this wasn't the end.

I was subjected to other events of a sexual nature later in my childhood, and from females more than males. Like a teenage babysitter who asked to see my privates and then exposed her genitals to me. Another one who asked if she could touch me there when I was 8 (I did refuse at this age). And my 55 year old grandma who managed to caress me as a teenager. She would "lovingly" touch my thighs and advance to my privates and touch it through my clothes or underwear. Or she would "playfully" tickle my thighs all the way till she got much further than she should have. Once, she made me massage her legs and asked me to go "higher" till I reached her privates. This lasted from 13 to 16 years.

Abuse victims are often targeted by more than one offender

It's not unusual for sexual abuse victims to be targeted by a variety of abusers. And it's perfectly natural, especially for a young male, to find himself in a "pleasurable" situation, even though he being molested. It is perfectly natural for a young male to get an erection and even to have an orgasm when he is anxious, nervous or scared. This is something that many offenders know about their young victims, so they use it against them. They tell them that it isn't wrong, because the child is "enjoying" it. Nothing could be further from the truth. But it is the guilt and fear of being labelled either gay or of enjoying the abuse that prevents most males from disclosing sexual abuse.

Tim, I sincerely hope you are getting some sort of counselling for the sexual abuse you were forced to deal with. You're worth it.

Please distance yourself from your abusers

It was courageous of you to post.

May God have mercy on all of us survivors.

Parents and guardians of utmost reliability MUST instruct children not to indulge in sexual activity of any kind with anybody. Children must be taught that sexual predators should be turned into authorities; family members or not, young or old, male or female.

Dear Tim,
Please don't feel bad for not saying anything about the abuse. There is a good chance you wouldn't have been believed or you would have been blamed.
I was abused by my dad and when I finally spoke up the entire family disowned me after they called me a liar. My father the abuser got their sympathy. My grandmother took me aside and asked me how I could hurt my father so by telling such lies.

I don't know what hurt more, the abuse or not being believed when I finally told. One Aunt said, "Well people do strange things when they are drinking"; letting my father off the hook by blaming alcohol. My father wasn't drunk when he abused me; it was willful, deliberate cruelty. He liked hurting me.

The man who abused you is evil. He tried to break your soul; don't let him. You are not responsible for what happened to you when you were a kid. You are not to blame. A lot of people went through the same thing you went through; you are not alone.

Abusers look at their victims like objects; they just use them and don't care. You are not an object and neither am I. We are human beings with souls. Just because my father had the power over me to treat me as a object doesn't make me one. Same goes with you.

Think of your experience like you were in a prison camp (like that movie with Christian Bale) but you're out now and you can move on. You aren't a victim now, you are a survivor.
