Child Abuse Story From Rachelle DM

by Rachelle DM
(North Carolina, USA)

I can remember the first incident. I was 5 years of age. My mother was a teen. She abandoned me to my grandmother to raise.

I was playing in the living room. My grandma was working, and I was left with my partly deaf and blind uncle. He was the babysitter. He was old, around 72 years old. My mom's brother, "the molester," was around 17 or 18 years of age. He told me it was time to wash clothes. He told me to take my clothes off so he could wash them. He was my uncle, my favorite uncle, so I listened to him without any idea of what was about to happen.

He told me to climb into the bed until the clothes were done, then I could put them back on. He took off all of his clothes and climbed into bed with me. He began performing oral sex on me, and then he proceeded with intercourse. He tried to force himself inside me, but it would not fit, so he used excessive force to widen me. I screamed in pain so loud that my half deaf uncle heard me, and he was outside. I could see him out in the yard from "the molester's" bedroom window. I was screaming so loud, "the molester" put a pillow over my face to quiet the screaming. He finally ejaculated, and rubbed it on me. He got up, put his clothes on, and left the house. I got up from the bed, but when I tried to walk I felt pain. I could not walk normally, yet no one in the house noticed. And I had been told not to tell.

This incident was the first of seven, by five different people, one of which was a female. The others were male, including my bio-father when I was 13.

I am not a normal person today. I am 28 years old with 3 kids and I'm on my second marriage.

You are NOT abnormal...
by: Darlene Barriere - Webmaster

You said, "I am not a normal person today." Rachelle, none of us can be defined as "normal." Very few of us come out of childhood unscathed in some way, especially those of us who came from childhood abuse. You certainly had more than your share of adversity to deal with; and for that, you have been physically, sexually and emotionally affected, well into your adulthood. But that doesn't make you tainted. Nor does it make you abnormal. It makes you a person who grew up with abuse. A person who makes choices for herself that are unhealthy. But you CAN change that. As a child you had no power; but as an adult you have the power to make decisions for yourself (and your children) that are healthy. But you can't do this by yourself.

Rachelle, counselling can help you with the emotional turmoil of being sexually molested by an uncles you loved and trusted, and with the feelings of betrayal and abandonment you've experienced because of a mother who abandoned you, a grandmother and elderly uncle who failed to protect you, and an extended family who chose to ignore the clear signs of sexual abuse rather than step up to keep you safe from harm. You weren't treated with the respect and dignity you deserved as a child. Treat yourself now with that respect and dignity. The best gift you can give to your children is to take good care of their mother.

Baffled in Alabama
by: Linda

I will never in a million years figure out what rock all these child molesters crawled out from under! Rachelle, you are the normal one in that family you came from. Not your uncle or your mother. If your deaf 72 year old babysitter heard you screaming, he probably knew what was going on. He was wrong for not helping you. separate yourself from those "~ABNORMAL~people. You're a grown-up woman now.You be the one in control and don't punish yourself for what your uncle did to you.You were an innocent child and he needs to rot in prison for the rest of his miserable life. Thank you for sharing your story, I don't feel so alone now.
