Parents who treat their child as yours treated you have serious problems. This is about them, not you. Consider reading my article titled Why parents target a specific child for abuse on this site. Distancing yourself from your highly critical parents may be required long term in order for you to move forward in your life, especially if they continue to be so critical. I had to do this years ago myself. I strongly recommend some form of counselling, Michael. The right counsellor may be able to help you deal with the repercussions of all the terribly negative messages you received from your parents. Thank you for sharing your story with my visitors and me.

Always Believe in YOURSELF. Because I am Worth it
by: maurice

Michael Z, your story angers me because I have known many children of self opinionated parents full of their own importance now acknowledgeing their children in that scenario. We know best, we know this is the best way to treat you, belittleing thier children instead of loving and cherishing them equally as their own flesh and blood. Uneducated/Thick/ignorant to the real needs of their children. Parents who put their child or children down by the way the treat them are not parents. They kill the natural giftedness of their child: Hi, Michael, you are the winner now because you know now thaey were not good parents to you. The effects of their abuse on you will stick if you don't get real support and help Darlene has in her wonderful and understanding way suggested counselling to you: Heed her comment to you and where possible act on it. You sure will be doing yourself right if you do. Always believe in yourself, I can, I will, I must, Why Michael Z. because I am worth it. Live your life to the full now let go and don't dwell on the neagtive about your abuse. I can be a winner over abuse, I was a victim but victory is in my sigth if I get off my Bottom and take the loving words of encouragement that Darlene has offered me and be pro-active in seeking help through counselling. Most important Michael Z have a healthy mind in a healthy body. get out there with your friends or like-minded people being active and alive in sporting and cultural activities. You know that will do you a power of good. Build up that Self-Esteem, have a good mirror image of the big guy in the mirror. Think Positive, act positive be positive in all you say and do with that Wonderful and beautiful hulk Guy in the mirror. I will, I can, I must, you know the rest Michael Z.
