VERY important message you give...
by: Darlene Barriere - Webmaster

Your message is such an important one, Kris. I'm so glad you understand that none of what happened to you was your fault. However, you question why the sexual abuse happened when you have a disability. There is no good answer for this. Sex offenders chose who they chose because they believe they can get away with what they are doing. Children with disabilities are at greater risk for all forms of abuse for a variety of reasons. My sexual abuse victims with disability page provides some information with regard to this. The page covers a wide scope of disabilities, so please keep that in mind as your read through the information there.

I do hope you have told someone about your cousin, Kris; and if not, that you will. He's may very well be molesting others. I also hope you're getting some form of counselling for the emotional turmoil. A counsellor may be able to help you come to terms with both the molestation and the twisted babysitter who was entrusted to take care of you and your sister.

One more thing, Kris, I wasn't sure what you were referring to when you wrote "CP" as a disability, so I took a chance and inserted "Cerebral Palsy". If this is inaccurate, please write me a comment here and I'll be happy to change it.

Thank you for sharing your message and your story with my visitors and me. You truly are a survivor.
