Child Abuse Story From Debra Z

by Debra Z.
(Shillington, Pennsylvania, USA)

One Story of Many Days of Child Abuse:
I was abused from my mother. I remember a time when I was 4 or 5 and got paint all over myself. My mom stripped me and with turpentine she washed my body with it in the garage with the door open. In my hair, in my face...the burning sensation...the pain was soo intolerable. I was allowed to shower because I started to get chemical burns. No emergency room. I remember for days I was red and raw. My mother today has conveniently forgotten the horrible abuse she put on me.

I'm now back in college and working towards a BA in Social Work. Where else will I be of service but in Children and Youth Services, of course. Many years of anti-depressants and now Adderall for my ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder). I'm now a wonderful mother, wife and devoted, well-adjusted woman.

Well done!
by: Darlene Barriere - Webmaster

Deb, you show that it is possible to overcome the effects of terrible abuse. Congratulations on that front! And keep up the great work as a "well-adjusted" woman, a wonderful mother and wife, and a dedicated and determined student. You have selected a career that can definitely turn pain into power. Well done!

As for your mother "conveniently forgetting" that horrible incident with the turpentine, I'm not at all surprised. It's been my experience that confrontations with abusers rarely result in responsibility taken. Such confrontations are usually wracked with denials, minimizations, or worse, blame shifted to the victim. Just don't let your mother's denial interfere with your goals and aspirations.

Thank you for sharing your story with my visitors and me.
