Your pain CAN be managed...
by: Darlene Barriere - webmaster

Oh Carol, you deserved to be loved and nurtured by your father, not raped and beaten. What you had to deal with was inhumane. For that, your father should never again be a free man. For that, the other man should be locked up forever.

Child abuse survivors never forget. However, you can manage the pain of it, Carol. But you'll need help in doing that. You need the services of a professional who can help you deal with the emotional residue, the betrayal and the abandonment. But you also have to make the decision to NOT allow the bastards who did this to you continue to control your life, because as long as you continue to tell yourself that there is no recovery, you continue to give them power. They don't deserve that power, Carol. You're 44 years old—don't keep giving it to them. Take it back! Tell yourself that there IS recovery. Tell yourself there IS healing. Tell yourself there IS a way to get past it. You're worth getting past this, Carol, you truly are; but only YOU can make the decision to do the work to GET past the pain. Make it a New Year's resolution to get yourself the help you need. You are definitely strong enough; you proved that when you left at 16 years old.

The pain has lessened.
by: Anonymous

I can relate Carol, the pain never goes away.I view it like someone who has lost an arm or a leg,if that had happened, each day you would have to remember because it's who you are now.The injury is permanent. But with time and the proper therapy you can cope with such a major injury better, and learn how to live with it.I have found
the same is true with the traumatic effects of abuse.
Councelors and self help books have helped me,and I read from the Bible, the book of Psalms, especially chpt 37.It gives me peace of mind.I listen to relaxing music at night also.
I feel that the pain has lessened or faded to a degree.I hope you find this to be true also.
